NBA insider reveals update on Nikola Jokic contract plans
Nikola Jokic is not planning to leave the Denver Nuggets anytime soon, despite not signing a contract extension this summer, per Sam Amick.
Despite being eligible to sign a massive contract extension this summer, Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic has decided to wait. But according to NBA insider Sam Amick, fans in Denver shouldn’t panic.

“There are no signs Jokic wants out of Denver anytime soon,” Amick said on Sactown Sports 1140.
Nuggets have had a busy offseason trying to reshape their roster around the three-time MVP. After back-to-back second-round exits in the playoffs, their front office moved quickly to improve the supporting cast.
Denver traded away Michael Porter Jr. and brought in Cam Johnson as part of a roster revamp.
The Nuggets also signed Bruce Brown and Jonas Valanciunas, adding depth and experience to help Jokic and Jamal Murray carry the team deep into the postseason.

While Jokic is eligible to hit free agency in 2027, there is no indication that he’s even considering leaving the franchise that drafted him.
The 30-year-old Serbian star is currently under contract through 2026, with a $62.8 million player option for 2027.
There’s also a financial incentive for Jokic to wait on signing a new deal. By holding off until next offseason, he becomes eligible for a four-year extension worth over $290 million—far more than the three-year, $212 million deal he could have signed this summer.
Jokic is coming off another historic season, becoming the first center in NBA history to average a triple-double for a full season: 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game.
He finished second in the 2025 MVP voting behind Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
