When it comes to Slovenia, Doncic entered the competition ranked eighth, with 311 points in 16 games.
The Lakers star trailed Zoran Dragic, Bostjan Nachbar, Rasho Nesterovic, Erazem Lorbek, Ivo Daneu, Jaka Lakovic, and Goran Dragic. The former NBA player sits at the top with 696 points in 51 games.
By the end of EuroBasket, Doncic is expected to be a few spots higher. However, Slovenia is struggling during the group phase out in Poland.
Despite a stellar effort from Doncic on Saturday against France, Slovenia came up short with a 103-95 loss.
Just two days prior, Doncic and Slovenia had a crack at Poland and couldn’t come out on top. The first matchup featured a 34-point effort from Doncic. Similar to Saturday’s game, it wasn’t enough for Slovenia to avoid a 10-point loss against the home team.
Doncic’s squad has three games left on the schedule. As some of their rivals advance to the knockout phase, they are entering a dangerous territory.
The next matchup for the Lakers star will take place on Sunday, August 31, against Belgium. Then, they’ll take on Iceland next Tuesday. The group phase will wrap up next Thursday with a matchup between Slovenia and Israel.
Doncic is getting an opportunity to further cement himself as one of the greatest players to represent Slovenia on the FIBA stage. Then, in one month, it’s back to the NBA for the superstar guard.
Last season, Doncic was surprised by a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers after playing 22 games for the Dallas Mavericks. When he reached LA, Doncic appeared in 28 games to close out the 2024-2025 NBA season. He was a part of the Lakers’ five postseason matchups.
Doncic produced averages of 28 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists throughout that stretch. At the end of the year, Doncic had 12,878 points in his career. The 26-year-old recently inked an extension with the Lakers, planning to continue racking up the points in the NBA as well, climbing that leaderboard each year.
