BREAKING: Nuggets Owner Supports Nikola Jokic’s Brutally Honest Championship Take
The Denver Nuggets’ season came to an unfortunate end when the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated them in seven games.
It was a rocky road to get to that point. Some believed the Nuggets were underperforming, despite heading into the NBA Playoffs with the No. 4 seed.
Those beliefs were confirmed when the Nuggets decided to part ways with both head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth on the same day, just days before the start of the playoffs.
Nuggets owner supports Nikola Jokic’s take
While some might view the Thunder’s performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves as a testament to just how good and hard the Nuggets played them, Nikola Jokic and owner Josh Kroenke believe changes need to be made.
Kroenke was asked if he believes the roster is talented enough to win a championship, and he didn’t hold back.
“I think the answer, as Jok said after the playoffs ended, was obviously no,” Kroenke said. “We need to take a hard look at how we can raise our ceiling going forward, whether that’s internally or externally.”
If the Nuggets are going to continue competing for championships, their depth needs to improve. Turning to Julian Strawther, needing big-time minutes and production was an unfair expectation to put on the young player.
The Nuggets’ best tradeable asset is likely Michael Porter Jr., but his value is likely low following the injury-riddled performance he put up against the Thunder.
Still, he could be the best way to bring in someone from the outside, considering it’s unlikely the Nuggets will attract big-time free agents in that market.
