Michael Porter Jr. Stuns NBA World: Claims Only Steph Curry Shoots Better
Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. has been making his opinion known over the course of this offseason as he is getting acclimated to being located in the New York market. Brooklyn traded forward Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets for Porter and a 2032 first-round pick, but it seems that Porter is expressing how much he believes in his game as well.
“[Golden State Warriors guard] Stephen Curry. That’s the only one I’m giving like a clear, elite, can shoot better than me,” Porter said during a livestream with content creator PlagueBoyMax. Porter has been making the rounds on various podcasts to give his opinion on various topics and in this livestream in particular, PlagueBoyMax and his followers wanted to know how well Porter can shoot the ball compared to his peers.

“There’s dudes that are on the same [tier] like I think [Phoenix Suns guard] D-Book [Devin Booker], [Dallas Mavericks forward] Klay Thompson, [Houston Rockets forward] KD [Kevin Durant],” Porter continued while naming Curry as the only player that shoots the ball better better than him. “I think like if I got in the gym, like [Detroit Pistons forward] Duncan Robinson, he probably can shoot with me you know? [Atlanta Hawks guard] Trae Young, [Portland Trail Blazers guard] Dame [Lillard] but, I think Steph is the only one that’s like clearly a better shooter.”
For his career, Porter is shooting 40.6% from three-point land, excluding his rookie season in 2018-19 that he did not participate in due to injury. In terms of three-point percentage, Porter ranks as the 19th-best shooter from three-point range during the last six years, with players like Luke Kennard (44.8%) and Joe Harris (44.3%) leading the field.
While the numbers wouldn’t agree with Porter’s assessment that he is one of the best three-point shooters in the league, he is right about one thing: he has been a more efficient shooter from deep than Curry. Over the past six seasons, Curry has shot 40.4% from three-point range, but it should be noted that he has attempted 11.7 three-pointers per game over that time span while Porter is averaging 6.0 three-point attempts per contest.
